We are currently in search of a Community Director for Sustainable Ocean Alliance. The location is flexible as this position is Remote. This is a Full Time, Permanent role. This is an opportunity to work with an organization known for innovative leadership in the environmental space. Though remote, the culture is very collaborative and personable.

Is This Your Dream Job? Reporting to the CEO, this position is responsible for managing all on and offline interactions with audiences and key targets including social following, influencers, partners, participants, etc. This role deploys all digital engagement strategies and helps to analyze collected test & learn data. The main goal of this role is to keep existing members engaged while recruiting new members to the SOA experience. The candidate will be a humble, entrepreneurial, proactive, compassionate and resourceful individual, someone who is eager to help the organization scale and grow over time and be a part of an impactful team.


Our Ideal Candidate:



  • Community management, marketing and social media experience required; non-for-profit and startup experience preferred

  • 3-5+ years of experience in managing communities and working on marketing / digital teams

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience

  • Nonprofit marketing and social media experience, experience with startups and/or experience at marketing or digital agencies

  • Ability to work with marketing, social media, public relations, digital and visual design teams

  • Has delivered successful community management programs, growing organizations and getting the word out

  • Experience delivering on goal planning and setting KPIs

  • Strong attention to detail and proficient in ensuring the community is managed flawlessly

  • Able to learn new methodologies quickly with enthusiasm to work toward amplifying the work of the organization

  • Excellent organizational and communications skills (written/verbal)

  • A continuous learner with an ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic

  • Willing to go the extra mile and learn from others


How You Will Spend Your Day:



  • Own a program stream at SOA, acting as team lead and strategic thinker with the ability to create, manage and execute programming

  • Develop the SOA community by participating in discussions, finding new members and listening to the current ones

  • Own the SOA audience—existing and new—and identify what it will take to communicate with them

  • Handle recruitment and onboarding approach for new members

  • Identify new ways to engage the digital community

  • Act as an advocate of the brand—the voice and face of the SOA ecosystem on and offline

  • Oversee and manage tools that make up the SOA digital ecosystem

  • Provide insight and analysis to the marketing team per learnings from audience on how to better perform and reach them

  • Liaise with the community on an everyday basis while also holding recurring sessions to dive deeper

  • Set and implement social media engagement programs to align with marketing strategies

  • Respond to comments and queries in a timely manner

  • Monitor and report on feedback and online reviews

  • Organize and participate in events to build community and boost brand awareness

  • Coordinate with Marketing, PR and Communications leads to ensure brand consistency

  • Build relationships with customers, potential customers, industry professionals and journalists

  • Stay up-to-date with digital technology trends
