Unemployment rate in the U.S. is the lowest since 1969

According to the Department of Labor the unemployment rate in the United States continues to fall down. It reached the record 3.5% in September 2019 which is the lowest rate since December 1969.

The number of involuntary part-time workers has been almost constant in the recent months (4.4 million in September 2019). These are the people whose working hours were reduced or they were unable to find full-time jobs.

Additionally, for the 17th straight month, the number of unemployed people has been lower than the number of open jobs. Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey run by Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows 7.2 million open jobs as of the last day of July (which is the latest data available). It is over 1.1 million more than the number of people unemployed in July 2019.
